No New Posts Apathy

Due to the apathy and lack of understanding of issues, not only by some of the local populace in Caithness and Sutherland, I no longer spend my time writing reports. All information is on my main blog on the News Service to which you will need to ask for access. Even the John o Groats Journal are not interested.

No New Posts Progress report - 28/07/18

I will be putting monthly progress reports on here - so keep an eye out. The route is intended for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. It will be the only multi purpose in the whole of Scotland. All the others are just walking routes. We input into the Scottish Outdoor Access Code in 2003 and continue to assist THC when they update their Core Path Plans. We have recently (July 2018) started putting information about the horses and cyclists. The actual route will be rolled out (complete with problems when we have money to do it.) We are getting no assistance from public services. It is all sponsored by Tina Irving...

No New Posts HIE

In March 2018 Roy Kirk agreed to set up a meeting of public services. 10 days later he reneged on the arrangement. HIE said there was no appetite for such a meeting. Contact with SNH and THC (Matt Dent) revealed otherwise. Reported to SPSO 4th July. Charlotte Wright came back and again asked for a business plan. I asked what would be included in a business plan of this nature, I had asked her before. A reply was not forthcoming. I also asked how a business plan could be done without a feasibility study. No reply. They were reported to the SPSO in July.

No New Posts What do HIE do?

They are the economic and business agency but they don't know anything about either. They think everything should be free, yet they gave 900,00 to develop the Castle of Mey and its cafe... great, but it put small businesses out of business.

No New Posts Strategy

We have created a new strategy which will be revealed in due course. I am hoping this one will work! So far so good. At least The Highland Council have put 1000 into this project, and they respond to emails and letters. HIE have contributed nothing, except a lot of problems.

No New Posts email 10th July 2018

ear Colin and Stuart, Further to my previous email, I now attach the letter of support from Venture North. We know that we have the support of the community councils for the project, but they cannot undertake the project, or even form a committee or voluntary sector body. Now I have the support of the local business community as well. The outcome of the second stage complaint about not providing funding for the required land owner survey is due any day now. I sincerely hope that I and THC can overcome our differences for the benefit of tourism and the communities on the north coast and that we can move forward together for this important project. As we know, Matt Dent does an excellent job and without him there would be a serious problem with access in the north. Without the support from SNH the project would be going nowhere. This is not financial support but excellent advice and guidance from Ian Mitchell. We know that HIE are being difficult. They do not understand that a feasibility study is essential to be able to formulate a business plan. All they want to do is extract information from me for free. I have pointed out several times that you have already paid 1000 into the project and that they should now contribute. I will continue to press them for a meeting in October. I would kindly ask again for you to reconsider your decision about not providing funds for the land owner survey. I look forward to hearing from you.

No New Posts Scottish Natural Heritage

Scottish Natural Heritage are a fantastic organisation... helpful and think things through. They are the public service which serves Caithness and Sutherland the best. https://www.outdooraccess-scotland.scot/ I input into the code in 2003.

The ongoing theme for the project is lack of resources within the public sector. We have to keep going, and lobby the politicians to get Caithness more of a priority for spending. I am in touch with the government in Westminster and Holyrood.
